HEADER-BANNER---WHO-WE-ARE-1

Cotton has been used as a fibre for more than 7000 years! Unlike fossil-based fibres, cotton is sustainable, renewable, biodegradable, and carbon-neutral. It can be used without depleting or damaging the environment, making it an excellent choice as an environmentally friendly fibre throughout its entire product life cycle. New technology, such as insect-resistant and drought-tolerant varieties, continues to reduce the need for pesticides and water. These varieties can improve yields, allowing for more cotton to be grown on the same land, whilst reducing the costs and risks.

Cotton South Africa (Cotton SA) was formed in 1998 to represent all role-players in the cotton value chain. Cotton SA provides the public infrastructure, supporting the cotton industry, raising awareness of critical issues, providing information necessary for decision-making, and facilitating cooperation on matters of shared interest. Cotton SA provides valuable information that is timely and relevant to all sectors of the cotton industry in assessing market conditions and is the official source of statistics on production, trade, consumption stocks and prices.

Cotton SA further acts as an industry forum and an advisory body to various government departments, applying appropriate statutory measures in terms of the Marketing of Agricultural Products Act and administering them accordingly. Our objective is to generate insights that facilitate growth in the cotton sector to reach its full potential and ultimately contribute to economic growth and poverty reduction.
